John Wilkinson Memorial Cup

On Saturday 18th January 2025, we were delighted to host the first inaugural John Wilkinson Memorial Cup match, held in memory of former teacher and rugby enthusiast John Wilkinson.

This event was a resounding success, bringing together the local community to celebrate his life and legacy. The match, played at Hinckley Rugby Club, saw The Hinckley School claim victory with an impressive 47-22 score line.

The event not only showcased the talent and determination of the players, but also highlighted the strong bonds formed across the local community and the legacy of John’s impact. Students, staff, and supporters from various schools came together to honour John Wilkinson, whose dedication to education and rugby left a lasting impact.

We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Hinckley Rugby Club for their invaluable support in organizing the event. The club’s assistance ensured the day was a fitting tribute to a man who inspired so many. In addition to the thrilling match, a collection was held in John Wilkinson’s memory, which is still on-going for anyone wishing to make donations – click here to visit the fundraising page.

This special occasion marked the beginning of what promises to be an enduring tradition, celebrating not just the sport of rugby, but also the enduring spirit of community and camaraderie that John Wilkinson exemplified.

We would like to thank Bond Street Trophies for their help in creating such an impressive trophy which our community can now proudly compete for in John’s memory for years to come.
