Year 7 Match Report: Hinckley School vs Leicester Grammar

After only one full training session, our Year 7 boys embodied The Hinckley Way, displaying perseverance and discipline in their opening match against a very strong Leicester Grammar side. Despite facing a tough opponent and ultimately losing the game, the boys never wavered in their effort, playing at a high level until the final whistle.

This game marked a significant moment for the Year 7s, with student MH scoring the year group’s first-ever try—a proud milestone for the team. The boys also showed incredible determination in defense, with some huge tackles throughout the match, especially from HC, who led the way with his fearless tackling.

While the result wasn’t in our favour, the team's grit, resilience, and commitment to each other were clear. They left the field with their heads held high, ready to build on this experience and continue improving as a squad. We look forward to seeing how they progress as the season unfolds!

Year 9 Match Report: Hinckley School vs Leicester Grammar

After a successful season last year and building upon their U12 County Cup triumph, our Year 9 boys picked up right where they left off with an outstanding 31-0 victory over Leicester Grammar. From start to finish, the boys delivered a dominant performance, showcasing the skill and discipline they’ve developed as a team.

The tries came from LY-M, OL, and LJ, with OL converting several kicks to cap off an excellent all-around display. The tone for this physical contest was set early, with huge tackles being made across the pitch, showing that the team was ready to defend their hard-earned reputation. Though the boys had a slow start, they found their rhythm as the match progressed, with standout performances from TF and OL, who both made game-changing plays throughout the second half.

This fixture also marked several key milestones for the team: JT made his first starting appearance, while HD stepped up to play fullback for the first time. Additionally, it was a debut game for HB, who played his first match for the school and integrated seamlessly into the squad.

The spirit of The Hinckley Way was not only evident on the pitch but also on the sidelines, as Year 11
Co-Captain BL came out to support the boys in their first game of the season, offering encouragement and embodying the strong sense of community we aim to build.

It was a complete team effort, and the 31-0 scoreline was a well-deserved reflection of their dedication, teamwork, and determination. We look forward to more success as the season continues!

After the game Ahmad - who played his first full game had this to say-

"It was amazing to come to Leicester Grammar today - I have never seen a school like this before. I never could have imagined playing somewhere like this before. It was brilliant to win today but I do want to say thank you to Leicester Grammar for hosting us and especially feeding us after the game!"
